Farato Church Choir's Musical Journey

The adult choir at Farato Church reached out to SchoolGambia with a desire to expand their skills to reading music. The choir are an established group of young men and women who practise two evenings a week and sing beautiful harmonies accompanied by local drums. They want to add bass guitar and an organ to the mix and be able to read music that they download from Christian choir sources.

In response, daily music lessons with Trustee Karen Di Marco kicked off in March, and the enthusiasm was clear from the start with excellent attendance.

Even after Karen returned to the UK, the lessons continued seamlessly over WhatsApp. By using new songs as a fun and engaging way to teach, the choir quickly advanced in reading musical notation. The progress has been so encouraging that the lessons will resume in person when Karen returns in November.

Excitingly, the Farato Church of Good Shepherd choir now dreams of collaborating with the Yalding choir from Kent, UK, and hopes to arrange a visit to sing together in the near future. This partnership is not only strengthening musical abilities but also fostering a global connection through the joy of music.
